I welcome myself to the wonderful world of blogging…well not really March 2, 2009

I wouldn’t say that I’m new to the blogging world. I’ve been using xanga before this. On a side note, I’m still thinking if I should import all posts from xanga to here.

I must say that blogging all started, for me, was from asianavenue.com. AA as people would call it. AA was similar to the blogging world today. AA was more of site where you make your own website. You would have to know a bit of html to make your page look decent. I didn’t really bother. But a lot of people went all out on their pages. Lots of flashing gifs, pictures etc. I never really got into the whole AA scene. Because all you’re doing is making your page look pretty so you can win a AA t-shirt by earning points based on the number of people that viewed your page. I’m sure there’s more to AA but, like I said, I never really got into it.

As AA died down, a lot of people started to move to xanga.com. The difference between AA and xanga.com was that it was a lot more simpler. Xanga is more of a blog, whereas AA was just making a website, similar to myspace. I guess more people enjoyed xanga because people could write about random stories as other people would read and leave comments. This was a bit difficult because this would require you to go through each page and read their long stories. Sure these posts could get long and personal.Sure it’s good to write and write but it was more of a diary or just ranting. It was like you had to write something meaningful all the time. I guess that’s why a lot of people left. Some people stayed, such as myself. I liked the whole writing thing.

Next was facebook. A lot of people left xanga as facebook became more and more popular. I can see why it was and is so popular. Because people can communicate virtually about anything and stay connected with other people. I must say that facebook had it all figured out. The fact that you can write  on other people’s “walls” or just the fact you can see what all your friends are doing in the “newsfeed”. Facebook had done it, when it came to social networking. Sure a lot of Americans had myspace or friendster, but facebook brought majority of those people over. That’s why facebook is so big today. You can write about anything and all your friends would know. That’s the power, the power of knowing. It kept people connected in the most superficial way. But it worked!

Now here I am. Sure I still use xanga and facebook. But now I have decided to try real blogging. I feel that I have to write more clear in these blogs. Most of my xanga blogs were empty or just 2 liners.  As for facebook, I believe facebook can’t do the same as what blogging can do. Blogging is a lot more powerful in the way it does work. I’m not saying facebook isn’t. I’m just saying blogging can used in such a way that facebook cannot. It probably makes no sense to you but I know it does for me.

I hope that the blogs I write here are more meaningful. But sometimes I may just rant and no one will understand but me. I hope you enjoy what I write here. There’s more to come.
